The Problem’s Around English Teachers Teaching

Topic :English language is very important to seek  of  employment

            English language is one capability that very important to received employment now. This phenomenon is early appeared various of  English courses in the entire of Indonesia. Regadless of how exactly the quality of english courses that exist in Indonesia, but, at otherside, a state of concern is decrease quality of english language teaching in shools. The problem’s around english teacher Teaching in the classroom incorrectly :

Topic : Teacher seldom speak english in the classroom and lessons too focus on grammar

First, teacher seldom speak english in the classroom. It was felt inhibited by the students because they think,  they  not used to hearing other people speak english. And also, Lessons too focused  on grammar ( and not conversation ), but students  seldom give guidance  how and what  the function of the elements of grammar they  learned it. Based on the result on the students, it appears they capable the pattern of english grammar ( the structure for simple present tense, past tense, etc ). But, students  not know when and how the structure must utilized.  It is very remarkable,  as well as Indonesian language , would be more useful if it can be used and applied even thought the grammar is not too capable. That does not mean that learning grammar is not important , but essential to those theories assosiated with every life.

Topic : The vocabulary is thaught not useful

            The vocabulary is thaught not useful in conversation everyday. Many students complain that the words given by the english teachers at school  too technical , for example about industrialization, reforestation, etc ), while the students still had difficulty translate words that are used in movies, magazines, and internet sites in english. Even sometimes, the students  really memorized the english term for the field of politic ( such as Reformation, globalization, etc ). Some of the students even said that with vocabulary  when learned  might not  students can start for conversation with tourism by english language. Students , suddenly talk to new people who they know to discuss about industrialization, for example.

Topic :repitition of materials english

Material of learning in  junior high and senior high school are not sustainable. Students said that happen repitition of materials ( such as tense ) whom haven taught in the junior high school  level, but still it functions and its application  less clear in daily ilfe.

So, as an english teacher , what can we do to solving this problem ? Many of course, because it is recognized or not, teachers all control in teaching. Clearly, we should not blame only the goverment ( which makes the curriculum ) but it would be better if we introspect ourselve and more digging  our potencial again that more sucessful approach in teaching english students at the school.
